Ron and Maria Vakulska Rosmann along with their three sons: David, Daniel and Mark will be presented the 2006 Spencer Award for Sustainable Agriculture at the 6th Annual Iowa Organic Association Conference November 20 in Ames. Rosmann Family Farms has been operated as (Chemical free) since 1983 and has been certified Organic since 1994. Ron has been an energetic supporter of numerous organizations and committees promoting sustainable agriculture practices, He is currently treasurer of the Iowa Organic Association. Many thanks go to the Rosmann family for their tireless work supporting sustainable agriculture.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture-elect Bill Northey will be attending the inaugural meeting of the Iowa Organic Association to be held at 1:00 pm Novemeber 20 at the Iowa Organic Conference in the Scheman Building, Iowa State University.

The elections did bring about a pleasant surprise in Montana with the election of Jon Tester to the United States Senate. Jon and Sharla Tester’s T-Bone Farms is a diversified organic operation with 1400 acres of dry land hard red wheat, hard white wheat, kamut, lentils, and purple barley. Jon has been involved with the Organic Crop Improvement Association International and helped with the development of the Montana Organic Certification Program.

With the narrow margins separating the results of Secretary of Agriculture Elections; Iowa agriculture has been given a wake up call. With this being said, now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get a dialogue going with our new Secretary of Agriculture!
