Farm Commons Webinar: COVID Unemployment Benefits for Farmers/Ranchers

If you own a farm or ranch and are suffering lost or reduced revenue because of COVID-19, unemployment insurance benefits may help provide income during this difficult time. Although self-employed individuals don't normally qualify for unemployment, that has changed.

Benefits have been extended to farmers to cover income where farmers markets have shut down, restaurants have stopped buying, and potentially where the market for commodities has collapsed and product is being dumped, as with milk. Unemployment benefits are a useful tool in combination with the Paycheck Protection Program, and we will discuss strategies for leveraging both.

The webinar will address who, what, when, how, and how much. We will provide additional resources to help farmers apply and show their eligibility for unemployment benefits for attendees. This webinar provides state and federal information, and is relevant to farmers nationwide.
