TRANSITIONING TO ORGANIC CROP FARMING: TIPS TO HELP YOU SUCCEED

Join the Iowa Organic Association for the second event in its field day series. Scott Ausborn will host a field day at his family farm at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 11th, co-hosted by Practical Farmers of Iowa. This field day will review what fields to convert first; crop rotations including small grains and cover crops; budgets; weed control; fertility; and recordkeeping. You'll tour an oat field underseeded with alfalfa and red clover, and view equipment essential for organic farming. Scott Ausborn, along with his father, Jack, will share some of the challenges and decisions that transitioning to organic can involve. Experienced organic farmers Seth Smith and Paul Mugge will also share experiences with organic crop farming and advanced organic weed control.
SCHEDULE: Field Day Program 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Meal at 12:30 or 1:00 PM. A meal will be served.
