ISU Training on Organic Practice Standards

The Iowa State University Organic Program is hosting a training at Reiman Gardens in Ames, Iowa on Septembers 12th, from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, for both NRCS staff and organic farmers, to gain a better understanding of organic practice and management standards, including the new OMS 823.

The workshop will feature speakers from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, NRCS, USDA, and local farmers, and will cover a variety of topics, including:
  • Nutrient, weed, and pest management that meet certified organic rules
  • Organic practices supported through EQIP and CSP
  • How to determine application rates/manure management plan
  • Erosion and nutrient budgeting calculations
  • Role of carbon in soil health and practices related to enhancing carbon
  • Overview of local farmers' practices and meeting NOP organic standards
  • Discussion on how we can improve successful applications and funding
This hybrid, full-day workshop is free to attend and includes a question and answer session, as well as a free catered lunch.
